Beginning My Day In God

“…word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom…”

Col. 3:16-17: “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.”

Father I earnestly ask for this good gift:

Your word to dwell in my heart richly in all wisdom.

You are the Living Word, Lord Jesus,

And your word is life and Spirit for me, John 6:63.

May I be able to learn from other children of God, and be wise;

May I be able to share in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs;

May the Spirit help me to sing with grace to you;

Thus, Lord, let me fulfill this Word.

Lord, you gave me life, and keep me in life:

From moment to moment, let me thank you.

Let me serve you in the least little thing I do,

Offering all my tasks and time to you, O Father.

● Early Christians exhorted one another daily, Heb.3: 13. They were simple people. They used “psalms and hymns and spiritual songs” to admonish one another.

● The heart that desires to “do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him” will receive grace to be obedient to this exhortation. This is our ultimate joy and fulfillment: to perform all our humble tasks as an offering to God. Surely this is the way of perfection.

Quote: “I have always been governed by love without selfish views, and have resolved to make the love of God the end of all my actions. I have been well satisfied with this single motive. I am pleased when I can take a straw from the ground simply for the love of God, seeking Him only and nothing else — not even seeking His gifts.” — Brother Lawrence, Practicing His Presence [See “whatever you do in word or deed,” Col. 3:16-17]

Testimony: I am learning to find greater joy in doing the ordinary tasks of daily life as unto God — to please Him. This also trains me to abide in prayer and in fellowship with the Lord.

Memory Verse: 1 Cor. 10:31: ” Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. “
