Beginning My Day In God

“This is the day the LORD has made…”

Ps. 118:24: “This is the day the LORD has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.”

“This is the day the LORD has made” —

Lord, I give thanks this morning for life, for this day:

For the goodness you have prepared for me, Ps. 31:19.

Lord, let me rejoice in you, and be glad.

May my spirit and soul rejoice this morning, Lord —

Rejoicing in your goodness and your salvation.

I offer the first fruits of the time of this day, Lord,

With a thankful heart.

Your goodness, your mercy (Ps. 23:6), your loving-kindness —

For these I praise you, O Father.

Let me keep on praising you all day long,

O Lord God my Father. Amen.

● What a precious gift this morning is, O Father! A day of goodness you have prepared for me, Ps. 31:19: “Oh, how great is Your goodness, which You have laid up for those who fear You, which You have prepared for those who trust in You in the presence of the sons of men!”

● In spite of all that may hinder, I must rejoice in the Lord in the morning, and offer thanks and praise. May my faith increase, dear Lord. May I live and serve in a state of health for my spirit, soul, and body as you have provided for me in your great salvation. When I am sick (even in light afflictions), Lord, let me believe and confess that you heal all my diseases.

● Perhaps the best part of God’s goodness for us in daily life is the correction from the Spirit, Jer. 10:24: “O LORD, correct me, but with justice; Not in Your anger, lest You bring me to nothing.” Correct me Lord constantly, so that I will abide in faith and live by faith.

Quote: “If anyone would tell you the shortest, surest way to all happiness, and all perfection, he must tell you to make a rule to yourself, to thank and praise God for every thing that happens to you.” William Law (eighteenth century pastor in England), A Serious Call to a Devout and Holy Life.

Testimony: I was taught in my youth that some believers fail to progress because they do not habitually rejoice in the Lord. This awareness has helped me.

Memory Verse: Ps. 23:6: “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life;
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”
